Edgefest II

Edgefest II - July 18, 2014

This past Friday, Echo Beach (Part of the Molson Flats) hosted Edgefest 2. The concert was part two of a three part concert series hosted by 102.1 The Edge. Edgefest is an annual music festival that takes place in Toronto but the concert series was a new twist added for this year’s Edgefest.

the guitar throughout their set
Echo Beach was the perfect location for an outdoor festival such as Edgefest. The Toronto Skyline overlooked the main stage and to the left of the grounds was Lake Ontario, that shimmered from the glow of the lights of the stages and from the on looking city.  The sand from the beach was great for the fans that wanted to bounce and jump along to the music as it softened their landings and sprang them along.

Edgefest 2 was headlined by Toronto’s own USS and had performances by Ms Mr, Said The Whale and Bear Hands. The supporting bands all performed incredibly and the audience was thoroughly entertained throughout them all. The musicianship of the line up was beyond audience expectations and even spectators who never followed the openers prior to the show were raving about the acts once their sets were finished.

Edgefest 2 headliner’s USS delivered a mind blowing performance that will echo in the minds of those who were lucky enough to attend. Ubiquitous Synergy Seeker is a two-piece, rock-rap band who emerged from Parkdale but grew up in Stouffville and Markham Ontario. Ash’s vocals and guitar chords were perfectly on key and matched the vocal strength of their record. Jason the “Human Kebab” was energetic and entertaining as the duo’s hype-man and turntablist. Jason worked the crowd and raised excitement levels throughout the set as Ash sang and played his guitar.

The band during their performance gave credit and gratitude to 102.1 the Edge for being the first station to play their music six years ago and ultimately launching their career. The members mentioned how honoured and shocked they were when they were asked to headline this year’s Edge Fest. The duo near the end of their performance unveiled to their fans for the first time ever, their Gold Record for This is The Best. The Toronto based crowd roared with applause to give praise to the success of USS and welcome their homecoming show on the beach.

Big Rich on stage performing Out For A Rip

The biggest surprise for the audience was the unannounced special guest that USS invited to stage. The duo brought you tube sensation and friend B Rich to perform his smash hit Out For A Rip, which is a hilarious rap song about life as a small town Canuck (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-glHAzXi_M).

Edge Fest II was an incredible experience for the fans who attended.  Edge Fest III; the third and final instalment of this summer’s Edgefest concert series headlined by Our Lady Peace will take over the beach on August 16th. Get your Edgefest III tickets here.
