Good Vibes + Good People + Good Music was the formula
for this Canada Day. Electric Island hosted their second party of the season,
with headliners Dixon, The Martinez Brothers, DJ Tennis and Henrik Schwarz. If
you didn’t attend the concert this time, you should consider attending next
month’s event and we’ll tell you why.
The first thing we noticed was the friendly security
staff that were treating people like... well, real people. Once past security,
we walked right into the large event space, which gave us the overwhelming
feeling of being at a Woodstock festival. Music and nature were in perfect
harmony. People were hanging out on their tie dyed blankets, others were playing
Ping Pong by the front and the majority of the people were blissfully dancing
by the stage. Everyone was on the same wavelength. The atmosphere was down to
earth and people seemed to be promoting unity, friendliness and overall good
vibrations.
The music was deep house, minimal and tech house. A
world of a difference from an EDM festival, this type of music was more chill
and down tempo, with a stronger emphasis on melodic production. Music for your
legs and feet.
The guests at this concert series weren’t spending
the entire time waiting in long lines. There were tons of bartenders so getting
a drink took no more than 5 minutes. Drinks included Sapporo, Strongbow,
Rockstar, Tequila, Jager, bar rail and more. Other vendors included Bacon
Nation, Gourmet Bitches and I Love Churros. Laced With Sparkles was selling
their fashion gear, which included feathered headbands, arm kandi and awesome buddha
pants. Out of cigarettes? Lighters, Matches and more were selling premium
cigarettes as well as, you guessed it, lighters and matches.
As the day went on into the night, the party only got
better and better. The Djs were able to hold the crowd successfully with their
perfect flows and danceable mixes. By the end of the night the entire crowd
couldn’t help but dance. DJ Dixon was last to play, putting on a captivating
show and getting everyone pumped for the after party at CODA.
